Hampton City, Virginia Inmate Search

An inmate search is a tool for obtaining information about individuals incarcerated at detention facilities. This includes persons housed at county, state, or federal jails and prisons. Basically, inmate searches provide access to public-facing information about convicts, recent arrestees, and individuals awaiting trials.

In Hampton County, the local jail facility is operated by the Sheriff’s Office. This agency provides an online search tool for interested persons to find information about inmates at the Hampton Community Corrections Center. While Hampton City does not host federal or state prisons, the Virginia Department of Corrections Inmate & Supervisee Locator allows users to access information about inmates transferred from the Hampton Correctional Facility to state facilities. Likewise, interested persons can also locate individuals incarcerated at federal penitentiaries through the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator.

Typically, an inmate locator displays categories of information:

  • Identifying information
  • Physical descriptors
  • Booking and arrest details
  • Charges and case information
  • Custody status
  • Bail and bond information
  • Sentencing and release details
  • Special notes (if applicable)
  • Booking photographs.

Jail Facility Overview in Hampton City

HamptonCity operates two adult jail facilities: the Hampton Community Corrections Center (HCCC) and the Hampton Correctional Facility (HCF). However, the Hampton Community Corrections Center is the operating jail as of May, 2026, while the Hampton Correctional Facility undergoes new construction and renovations.

The Hampton Community Corrections Center is a 300-bed dormitory-style minimum to medium-security adult jail for pre-trial detainees, individuals serving short-term sentences, and those participating in work-release and community-based programs. As the largest jail in Hampton County, the HCCC provides education, job training, and rehabilitation programs to reintegrate inmates into society at the end of their jail terms.

In addition to the HCCC and HCF, Hampton City also has an Intake facility. The Hampton Adult Intake is not a permanent jail; the facility processes male and female arrestees before their transfer to a housing facility.

While the Hampton Correctional Facility (a high-security jail) undergoes renovation, Hampton City sends a significant population of its inmates to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail (WTRJ). This facility is a minimum to maximum-security 1,070-bed capacity jail contracted by Hampton City to house over 200 of its inmates at any time. The WTRJ accommodates Hampton City inmates convicted of serious charges and those with significant medical/behavioral needs.
